Designed by prestigious architect Álvaro Siza Vieira (b. 1933), who won the Pritzker Prize in 1992, the church of Saint Mary, dedicated in 1996, is considered a paradigm of 20th-century religious architecture.
With a simple look and subject to principles of spatial purity and geometric abstraction, its contemporary lines merge with the landscape, thus creating a unique temple to visit or pray.
