According to tradition, Vila Boa de Quires was named by our first King, D. Afonso Henriques, who gave it that name because he considered the region produced excellent wines. Vila Boa de Quires was later granted to Casa de Bragança in the wedding of D. Nuno Álvares Pereira's daughter with D. Afonso, son of D. João I. Casa de Vila Boa is one of the brands of reference of the whole Vinho Verde region.
