Ver do Bago, a toast between God and Man
The Route of the Romanesque is the protagonist and co-author of this journey in which the territory is the idea and culture the instrument, proposing a cycle of three exhibitions that celebrate the material and symbolic relationship between the vine and the cultural and human landscape of the Sousa, Douro and Tâmega valleys.
From 13 May this year (see video of the inauguration) to the middle of next year, we will experience a trinity of events that will show us the View of Bago, as it should be: slowly and using all five senses in a visit to a remarkable triptych of unforgettable places, first in Baião, followed by Penafiel and then arriving at Lousada as early as 2022.
The first exhibition of this cycle, called Ver do Bago nos Mosteiros, invites us, from the Monastery of Santo André of Ancede, in Baião, to celebrate a veritable toast between God and Men centred around the dialogue between sculpture, painting and archaeology , in an interpretative route that shows the importance that the culture of the vine and the consumption of wine had in every moment of these people's lives (see video).
Through diving into four totally different exhibition spaces (the River; the Monastery; the Wine Cellar; and the Wine Press), we will discover precious pieces, such as the national treasure that is the triptych of Saint Bartholomew, only exhibited for nearly a century (Exhibition of the Portuguese World, 1940s), and we will engage in two real and immersive experiences.
Have you ever imagined yourself literally walking into a glass of wine? And how long has it been since you've stepped into a wine press? And when before did you leaf through, read and co-write an interactive digital book, which in this exhibition is now starting to be created and which will only conclude with the end of the cycle of the three exhibitions, in more than a year?...
Now that we can finally be together, we really want to be together. With us. With God. With Man. With Wine. And with Art.
