Last Saturday, 18 October, the Route of the Romanesque celebrated Heritage Carer Day.
A tribute to all those who, in a dedicated and unconditional way, look after and cherish our monuments, also constituting an invaluable living memory of the place.
This year, as a symbolic gift of gratitude for their many services to the community and the preservation of cultural assets, the Heritage Carers of the Route of the Romanesque received an umbrella.
Some photographs of this moment can be seen here.
On 17 October, to mark the following day's anniversary, the Route of the Romanesque also promoted two intergenerational meetings at the Paredes Secondary School and the Mota Primary School (Celorico de Basto), between the educational community of those schools and two Heritage Carers of the Route of the Romanesque: José Martins (Monastery of Cête, Paredes) and Patrícia Carvalho (Church of Fervença, Celorico de Basto). Due to illness, the latter Carer was unable to attend the scheduled session (see photos).
On October 18, 2020, the day of Saint Luke, the patron saint of doctors, the Rota do Romanesque, in an unprecedented initiative in Portugal, celebrated Heritage Carer Day for the first time.
Since then, it has been carrying out several associated activities, including, among others, the creation of a thematic digital channel, intergenerational meetings with the school community, conferences to disseminate good practices, an exhibition and a photo book.
The project Heritage Carers, in 2022, won the TRANSROMANICA and APOM (Innovation and Creativity category) prizes.
