Caring for the Church of Escamarão is a task that is passed on from generation to generation. Mrs. Liberdade tells us that her grandmother was its carer for many years, passed on her task to an aunt and, later on, she took on this responsibility herself. But only for a short time, as she had little time to spare.
Since she works next to the Church, she was only assigned the responsibility of opening it whenever necessary: 'I open it, I go outside so as not to disturb people, because, in my opinion, they feel more at ease if they are alone.'
She reveals that the local population liked the fact that the Church joined the Route of the Romanesque: 'They started feeling more vain, that they have to make it even more beautiful because they know that, every now and then, excursions come to visit.'
