The Route of the Romanesque is currently carrying out an extensive programme of conservation and restoration work on some of its listed monuments.

Carried out as part of the project “Northern Routes: Conservation and Safeguarding of the Route of the Romanesque’s Heritage”, submitted by the Associação de Municípios do Vale do Sousa (VALSOUSA), the works are 75% co-financed by the European Union through the NORTE 2030 Regional Programme.

  • Church of the Saviour of Cabeça Santa | Penafiel
    - Works:
    Conservation and restoration of the gilded woodcarving elements in the side chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary, including the cladding of the arch, cornice and coffered ceiling, the altarpiece of the Virgin of the Rosary and the sculptural ensemble;
    - Contractor: N-Restauros;
    - Safety coordination: Medinova;
    - Investment: €48,831.00;
    - European co-funding (NORTE 2030): €36,623.25;
    - National co-funding (Municipality of Penafiel): €12,207.75;
    - Contract start date: 30 April 2026
    - Contract suspension: 17 June 2026;
    - Contract resumption: 7 September 2026;
    - Completion period: 90 days.

  • Church of the Saviour of Aveleda | Lousada
    - Works:
    Conservation and restoration of the two side altarpieces in the nave and their respective sculptural ensembles;
    - Contractor: Dalmática;
    - Safety coordination: Medinova;
    - Investment: €84,710.10;
    - European co-funding (NORTE 2030): €63,532.58;
    - National co-funding (Municipality of Lousada): €21,177.52;
    - Contract start date: 26 June 2026;
    - Completion period: 110 days.

  • Church of Saint Michael of Entre-os-Rios | Penafiel
    - Works:
    Conservation and restoration of the side altarpieces in the nave, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Grace, and their respective sculptural ensembles;
    - Contractor: Dalmática;
    - Safety coordination: Medinova;
    - Investment: €33,468.30;
    - European co-funding (NORTE 2030): €25,101.23;
    - National co-funding (Municipality of Penafiel): €8,367.08;
    - Contract start date: 26 June 2026;
    - Completion period: 80 days.
